It is that time of year again to oohh and ahh with 4th of July Fireworks. Here are this year’s locations for Broward County
Coral Springs: Enjoy some special moments to remember with family and friends at Mullins Park during this Fourth of July celebration. Food and activities will be available starting at 6 p.m. before the fireworks display at 9 p.m. There is a $3 parking fee. Mullins Park, 10180 NW 29th St. 954-345-2200.
Davie: Family Fun Day activities begin at 1 p.m. on the ball fields. There will be bounce houses, rides, a climbing wall, arts and crafts, youth entertainment, swimming, games and food trucks. Free cake will be served (while supplies last) to celebrate our country’s birthday. Across the Universe (a Beatles tribute band), Thunder Road and the Relyx will perform. Vista View Park fireworks viewing will take place at the highest manmade elevation in Broward County. Depending on weather conditions, one can see fireworks displays from Davie, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Plantation and Sunrise. Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood fireworks may even be seen. Most of these shows are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., but you’re welcome to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets and come early to get a good spot. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. The entry fee is good for admission all day; present your receipt for re-entry. You are also invited to bring your own refreshments, although hard liquor and glass containers are not allowed. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. The park’s playgrounds and shelters will be closed. Admission before 7:30 p.m. will be the park’s regular holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 or younger free); price goes up to $2 per person after 7:30 p.m. Vista View Park, 4001 SW 142nd Ave., Davie. 954-357-8898.
Flamingo Gardens‘ Old-Fashioned Fourth will feature “old time” games including potato-sack races and a hula-hoop contest. Break out a 1950s outfit and dance to the oldies. It’s a half-price day that offers carnival games and a chance to visit with bald eagles in the Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary. All the fun takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S. Flamingo Road, Davie. Deerfield Beach: There will be entertainment, arts, crafts and food vendors, as well as a Kid’s Zone from 1 to 9 p.m. Carly Jo Jackson, the Baron Sisters, the Pit Bull of the Blues, Turnstiles Tribute Band and Valerie Tyson Band will take the stage from 12:30 to 9:30 p.m. Free parking and trolley pickups will be available at the Cove Shopping Center, 1500 E. Hillsboro Blvd., and St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 363 SE 12th Ave (on the east side of the complex). Trolleys will begin picking up and dropping off starting at 11 a.m. and will run until 5:45 p.m. At that time, all trolley pickups and dropoffs will be stopped until 11 p.m., when the trolleys will begin running again until midnight. Fort Lauderdale: Fourth of July Spectacular will feature beach games, contests and live entertainment from 4 to 9 p.m. and a DJ from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Fireworks are at 9 p.m. Fort Lauderdale Beach, A1A and Las Olas Boulevard. 954-828-5363, FortLauderdale.gov.
Hollywood Beach: July 4th Star Spangled Spectacular will be fun for all ages at this celebration of our nation’s 237th birthday. Start off at Charnow Park (Garfield Street and the Broadwalk) with a DJ, patriotic tattoos, music and games for children from 1 to 6 p.m. Music at the Hollywood Beach Theater gets going at 1 p.m. with Fusion Dance Band, and then the Ruby Baker Band at 7. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea: A parade will kick off the festivities as it heads down Bougainvillea Drive, starting at 10 a.m. Then, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a picnic on Town Hall grounds with jugglers, a dunk tank and live music. Water-hose demonstrations for kids will be done by the town’s volunteer fire department in El Prado Park (on the beach across from Town Hall). Margate: The parade marches down Margate Boulevard along 76th Avenue to Margate Municipal Complex from 9 to 11:30 am. Immediately following the parade (at the northwest corner of Margate Boulevard and State Road 7), there will be free hot dogs, beverages, music and bounce houses. Plantation: This year’s Independence Day theme is “60 Years of Celebrating Our Nation Together” with a parade beginning 9 a.m. at the corner of West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 46th Avenue, ending at City Hall with an awards ceremony. At Plantation Central Park, there will also be a children’s carnival at 5:30 p.m. and a concert by Viva Classic Rock and Roll at 7:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase during the evening. Pompano Beach: The All Day Beach Bash affair features kids’ activities and an antique car show from noon to 6 p.m. There will be a watermelon-eating contest, relay races, arts-and-crafts projects, bounce houses and airbrush and glitter tattoos. Entertainment begins at 2 p.m. with Fourth Dimension, Rodeo Clowns, Sekond Nature and Slip and the Spinouts performing. “What’s the Deal” game show follows the bands. Sunrise: The patriotic “Let Freedom Ring” parade will head down Sunset Strip from Northwest 12th Street to City Park, where there will be free food, rides and kids’ fun. Festivities are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. City Park, 6700 Sunset Strip, Sunrise, 954-747-4600, Sunrisefl.gov.
Celebrate the Fourth at BB&T Center‘s annual event, featuring a children’s area with bounce houses, games, face painters, jugglers, rides and rock climbing. Food and beverage vendors will be on site. Making Faces from West Palm Beach will kick off the music, and veteran rockers Soul Asylum (“Runaway Train,” “Misery,” “Somebody To Shove”) will play, followed by a fireworks finale. Weston: No fireworks in Weston, but there is a 5K Race at 7 a.m. from Weston Town Center. The “Let Freedom Ring” hometown parade lineup is 9:30 a.m., starting at 10:30 a.m. and traveling from Town Center Boulevard and Three Village Road.
