battiokeThe signature fundraising event has become a favorite of those who attend as well as those who perform. What started as Clutch City Karaoke in Houston, has morphed into South Beach Battioke – a karaoke competition for Shane and his teammates as well as other celebrities. Giving these athletes a chance to shine off the court, the level of entertainment at Battioke is hard to find elsewhere. Attendees witness their favorite players letting loose and testing out their karaoke chops in front of a fun-loving lively audience, while raising money for The Battier Take Charge Foundation.

About:
Do Good. Do Well. This simple phrase not only describes the heart of The Battier Take Charge Foundation, it serves as a motto for the Battier Family. Through our NBA journey, we have been blessed with many life changing experiences and opportunities. Both Heidi and I strongly believe it is our responsibility to use our platform for the betterment of the communities that have touched us.
More specifically, we feel strongly about the merits and value of a college education as a vehicle to reach one’s life goals. As a high school teacher in an at-risk area of Memphis, Tennessee, Heidi came across a number of driven and talented students who possessed major league aspirations but fell short of their goals because of financial limitations.
While there are many college grants and scholarships available for the focused and diligent high school student, unfortunately, there are also many students who fall through the ‘gaps’ of the financial aid program. If it were not for basketball, I do not know if I would have been able to freely chase my collegiate dreams. My parents did not have the means to fund my college education but I would not have qualified for full financial aid. I made a promise to myself that one day I would do my best to help kids like me, kids who have promise and dedication but fall through the gaps of financial aid packages.
We formed The Battier Take Charge Foundation to help us fulfill this promise. Heidi and I are passionate about identifying and helping future leaders of tomorrow continue their journeys through a college education. Although we are a young foundation, we feel blessed to have offered over $180,000 in scholarships to our students. Our recipients’ stories and experiences hearten us, and at the same time move us to do more and give more.
Through entertaining fundraisers like South Beach Battioke and Take Charge Save Par, and the support of generous friends, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our cause. We are making real change in the world, making good on a promise we made to ourselves years ago. We thank you for your interest in the Battier Take Charge Foundation. Please join us as we Do Good and Do Well!
