Cubs Head to Coors Field Looking for Another Road Win
The Cubs visit Colorado Saturday night, and this feels like exactly the kind of game we need to take care of business. At Coors Field, no less, where the ball flies and runs come in bunches. With Javier Assad on the mound against the Rockies’ McCade Brown, we should have a real shot to keep this road trip rolling.

When: Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 8:10 p.m. ET
Where: Coors Field, Denver
TV: Marquee Sports Network
Pitchers: Javier Assad vs McCade Brown
Why Cubs Fans Should Feel Confident
Javier Assad gets the start for us, and he’s been solid when we’ve needed him. The thin air in Denver can mess with pitchers, but Assad has shown he can adapt to different environments this year.
The Rockies are going with McCade Brown, and honestly, Colorado’s pitching has been a mess all season. They have the worst team ERA in baseball, which at Coors Field is saying something. Our hitters should get plenty of chances to put up crooked numbers.
The Betting Line Makes Sense
Vegas has us as big favorites at around -200 to -227, with Colorado getting +171 to +180. We’re also laying 1.5 runs, which feels right given how much better we’ve been all year. The total is sitting at 11 runs – welcome to Coors Field, where that’s actually reasonable.
We’re hitting sixth in runs scored and sixth in home runs, while the Rockies are near the bottom in scoring. At elevation, those numbers should favor us even more.
Offensive Opportunities
Nico Hoerner has been our most consistent hitter at .292, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is up to 28 home runs now. In the thin air, PCA could really do some damage. The whole lineup should benefit from the altitude.
Colorado does have Hunter Goodman, who’s hit 26 homers with 75 RBIs and a .275 average. But one guy can only do so much when the rest of the team is struggling to score.
Cubs Fan Perspective
This is the kind of game that playoff teams win. We’re the better team, we’re playing a Rockies squad that’s having another disappointing year, and we’re at a hitter-friendly park with a lineup that can take advantage.
We can’t afford to look past anybody, but Colorado has been one of the worst teams in baseball this year. If Assad gives us five decent innings and our bats wake up in the altitude, this should be our game.
Injury Updates
We’re still missing Jameson Taillon and Justin Steele from our rotation, which hurts, but we’ve been getting by. The Rockies have their own issues with Kris Bryant and Thairo Estrada on the shelf.
The Bottom Line
One projection has us winning 5-4, but honestly, with how both offenses have played this year and the Coors Field factor, this could turn into a slugfest. The total going over 11 wouldn’t surprise anyone.
We need to take advantage of games like this. The Rockies are struggling, we’re the much better team, and we’re playing in conditions that should favor our hitters.
No excuses – this is a game we should win, and win convincingly. Let’s keep building toward October.
