The Chicago Scots, the first and oldest non-profit organization in Illinois, is kicking off the holiday season with the biggest celebration of Scotland and Scottish identity by hosting its 177th Annual Saint Andrew’s Day Gala, “The Feast of the Haggis”, on Friday, December 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year’s uplifting evening will again be hosted at the Chicago History Museum located at 1601 N Clark St.

All proceeds from the evening will benefit the organization’s principal charity, Caledonia Senior Living and Memory Care in North Riverside.

This uniquely Scottish event will present its highest honor, the 2022 Distinguished Citizen Award, to this year’s recipient, Richard Colburn. Colburn is the President of the Negaunee Foundation, a local non-profit foundation that aims to provide aid and support to cultural, historical, educational institutions and museums, along with performing arts organizations. During the pandemic, the Negaunee Foundation gave the challenge gift for a Million Dollar Match. This campaign inspired others to give generously to help refresh Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care’s legacy building, The Scottish Home and the Chicago Scots were able to meet the challenge one year ahead of schedule.
Additional recognitions during the awards presentation will acknowledge Constance Nestor as the 2022 Kinswoman of the Year, and Jim Sim for the 2022 Kinsman of the Year.
