Fieseler, an Edgar Award-winning author reads from his book American Scare: Florida’s Hidden Cold War on Black and Queer Lives which examines the chilling history of Florida’s Johns Committee, a legislative body that conducted a decades long “witch hunt” during the 1950’s. The book exposes how the state used the pretext of fighting communism to dismantle the lives of Black activists & LGBTQ+ citizens.
