It was an amazing community event past Saturday with great food, wine, entertainment, and people. The event was even topped off with a rainbow. POMPANO BEACH, FL (November 13, 2013) – Legendary Miami Dolphins players and top South Florida chefs teamed up for “John Offerdahl’s Broward Health® Gridiron Grill-Off Food, Wine & Tailgate Festival.” At the sold-out event, nearly 3,000 guests sampled some of the best fine-dining, grilled recipes from top restaurant chefs, paired with a selection of Kendall-Jackson wines, all in support of local charities.
“We are fired up about the great crowd of event goers who came out today to be a part of this fourth annual, one-of-a-kind charity event,” said John Offerdahl, event founder and former Miami Dolphins All-Pro Linebacker. “Everyone got their share of great food and wine with the chance to meet their favorite chefs and Dolphins legends.”
Food lovers got a taste of amazing dishes, including the 2013 “Judge’s Choice” winning recipe, “Newman’s Santorini Grilled Octopus,” prepared by Miami Dolphins great Ed Newman and Chef Peter Boulukus of YOLO. The 2013 “People’s Choice” Award went to “Blackwood’s Bacon & Bleu Rib-eye,” served by Dolphins legend Glenn Blackwood and Chef Victor Franco of Oceans 234. Other great bites included “Sims’ Bourbon BBQ Pork Cheeks” from former guard Keith Sims and Chef David “Ray” Roach of Council Oak Steaks & Seafood at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood, as well as “Super Duper’s BBQ Pacu Fish Ribs” provided by legendary wide receiver Mark Duper and Chef Samir Canaan of Truluck’s.
All event net proceeds from this culinary showdown where football, food and charity collide, benefit Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation, which directs funds to agencies that “feed the needs of kids in crisis” including 4KIDS of South Florida, HOPE South Florida, Here’s Help, Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Taste of the NFL and the Miami Dolphins Foundation.
The event concluded with a live concert featuring Country Music Association Award winner, Lee Brice. The rising country star performed his latest single, “Parking Lot Party” and CMA’s 2013 Song of the Year, “I Drive Your Truck.”
